New! Starting in 2005, choose either of two test options--The ACT Assessment Plus Writing, which includes a 30-minute Writing Test.  Not all colleges and universities require a Writing Test.  Check with the colleges you are considering--or go to www.actstudent.org for a list of institutions that require or recommend the Writing Test.
February 12, 2005 January 7, 2005
April 9, 2005 March 4, 2005
June 11, 2005 May 6, 2005

Students may register by completing a paper folder or online at www.actstudent.org.  A student still in high school and registered for a national ACT Assessment® test date within the last two years, has a record already on file.  The entire folder does not have to be completed again.  However, the name, address, and basic information such as the high school code, test center choices, and college choices must be completed every time the student registers.  One will want to update courses taken and grades earned since the last time tested.  It is important for students to give the high school code when registering.  The school will then receive the official label from ACT which can be placed on the transcript.  It is further recommended that students who wish to test in Alva at NWOSU give only one test site code (034120) to ensure that that is the only site listed on the ACT test ticket.  Starting this year, students will receive test results at the residence listed on the registration form.

Fee Waivers waivers may be available for students who can't afford the registration fee.  Funds are limited, and once they have been exhausted requests for waivers will be denied.  To use a fee waiver, a paper folder must be completed for registration.  All three of the following eligibility requirements must be met:
     1.  Currently attend high school as a junior or senior.
     2.  Meet at least one indicator of economic need listed on the ACT fee
waiver form.  Information about these indicators and how to request
fee waiver forms is mailed each fall to the high school counselor.
     3.  A fee waiver may be used only once during either the junior or senior
year.  THE WAIVER HAS BEEN USED ONCE REGISTERED, EVEN IF THE
          STUDENT DOES NOT TEST
.

Fee waivers cover only the basic registration fee including up to four valid college choices listed on the registration folder.  Waivers do not cover test date changes, test center changes, or any other fees.  PLEASE NOTE:  A fee waiver cannot be requested directly.  Go to the high school guidance counselor for a signed official ACT fee waiver form for the current testing year.

Early Scores by Web , www.actstudent.org , may be viewed before official scores  are received by mail.  There is a fee of $8.00 (VISA or MasterCard only) each time a set of scores is viewed.  Anticipated /dates for posting early scores after each test date are listed on ACT's website.

NEW  Students will receive ACT  scores at the mailing address which was listed on the registration form.  The school will continue to receive a copy of the scores and the sticker for the students' transcripts.

Residual testing for the ACT and SAT is available at all colleges and universities.  Residual testing is for the college/university use; however, it can work to your advantage as well.  It may help to meet admission requirements, curriculum requirements, and increase your opportunities for scholarship.  OU and OSU test both in the morning and in the afternoon on weekdays.  An appointment is necessary at all schools.  Two weeks in advance is usually enough time to make appointments; however, before deadlines, it is often necessary to book longer in advance.  NWOSU will give the ACT at 1:00 p.m., as scheduled.  The counselor may be contacted for more information or for help in making an appointment.  Students may be DCA from school to take a test.  Please contact the counselor to get a DCA Assignment Sheet at least TWO (2) days prior to the date of the appointment.  If it is not possible to do so two days prior, you may have your parent call to excuse you from school.  The principal will consider this an excused absence.

NMSQT/PSAT (qualifying test for National Merit Scholarship competition)  October 13, 2004,  8:20 a.m.  New The SDE is paying for any sophomore who wishes to take the PSAT this year.  Only juniors are considered for the National Merit Scholarship competition.  Seniors  will be notified in September 2005 if they have been selected as a semifinalist.  Freshmen and sophomores should be preparing for the PSAT by improving math and verbal skills.  There are books and web sites that can give you valuable information and help in your preparation.

One valuable way to prepare for the vocabulary is to learn the 1200 words that may be used on the PSAT.  You can make flash cards and write sentences to help you remember them.  Get the entire family involved.  Practice in the car or around the table or just any place you have a few extra minutes.  It does pay to prepare.
